The city of Dubai that we see today came into existence only by the mid 1800's. It was only land and water until the Bani Yas tribe stepped foot in the city in 1833. By 1900, Dubai started expanding as an important port city, and due to the waterways fishing, pearling, and various other sea-related trades started catching up. With the sudden upsurge in trade activities, plenty of shops started coming up, especially in the Deira region markets, and this led to an increase in population. By 1960's, Dubai started expanding into the prosperous city it is today, oil revenues and cargo shipping contributing to a major portion of its development. The year 1971 saw Dubai emerge as one of the richest countries in the world. This was mainly due to the visions of Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the president of UAE at the time. By the end of 1990's, Dubai turned out to a hotspot for tourists from all over the world. Today, Dubai has a vast array of entertainment options, brilliant accommodations, and a safe environment which makes it the favorite tourist spot in the entire world.
